Prevention - Teen Pregnancy & Healthy Relationships

Say It With Music supports positive youth development through Music STEAM Recording Programs and our interactive Psychological Effects of Music SEL books and assemblies that build communication, boundary-setting, goal-setting, self-awareness, and relationship skills, helping teens practice healthy decision-making and healthy choices. Many directors use the Music STEAM Recording & Team Building Programs to create a song and music video for teen pregnancy prevention campaigns.

Potential funding pathways may include teen pregnancy prevention funding, such as HHS Teen Pregnancy Prevention and PREP programs, Title V Maternal and Child Health funds, Title IV-A, and community foundation support.

FAQs

Straight answers.

  • Schools, youth organizations, and health agencies searching for teen pregnancy prevention programs, healthy relationships programs for teens, and teen dating violence prevention programs often want engaging ways to build communication, decision-making, and goal-setting skills that support healthy choices. Say It With Music supports these positive youth development objectives — through SEL School Assemblies, Music STEAM Recording Programs, and SEL supplemental books — by reinforcing protective factors such as self-awareness, communication, boundary-setting, goal-setting, and resistance to negative peer influence. SIWM does not provide sexual-health education or clinical services and does not claim to prevent pregnancy; it is a supplemental SEL and youth-engagement resource that can complement evidence-based sexual-health and healthy-relationships education where such education is required.

  • SIWM offers SEL School Assemblies, Music STEAM Recording Programs, and Psychological Effects of Music SEL supplemental books that reinforce communication, decision-making, self-awareness, and goal-setting. These support positive youth development and can complement an organization’s evidence-based sexual-health or healthy-relationships curriculum.

  • SIWM reinforces the social-emotional skills — communication, boundary-setting, goal-setting, and healthy decision-making — associated with healthy relationships and positive youth development. It provides engaging, creative activities that complement, and do not replace, required sexual-health education.

  • No. SIWM does not provide sexual-health education or clinical services and does not replace evidence-based sexual-health curricula. It supplements them with SEL and youth-engagement activities.

  • Through songwriting, recording, and guided reflection, SIWM’s Music STEAM Recording Programs give youth practice in communication, collaboration, and self-expression. The Psychological Effects of Music books reinforce self-awareness and decision-making. Both support the goal-setting and healthy-choice skills that healthy-relationships programming aims to build.

  • SIWM programming can be tailored for middle school and high school students and delivered in schools, afterschool programs, and community organizations, in person or virtually, alongside required health education.

  • Organizations commonly investigate the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPP) and the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) (administered through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services / Office of Population Affairs and state agencies), the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant, and, for teen-dating-violence work, certain OJJDP/Department of Justice youth funding. These are potential categories; SIWM would be positioned as a supplemental SEL and engagement resource, not as the required evidence-based curriculum, and allowability must be confirmed with the funder.
